Recent praise for the "SEX FOR SAFETY EP"

Best of 2007 lists for the “SEX FOR SAFETY EP”

keep em’ coming….

Providence Daily Dose **being ranked with Shellac’s latest, what an honor!

75 or Less

Good reviews keep coming in…not bad for a marketing budget comprised of postage stamps.

“Resembles the “Alex Chilton”-like rock of the Replacements” - Delusions of Adequacy

“This is like old school punk revisited by Steve Albini” -Smother

“Sex for Safety really shows off the abilities of this band. I really wish there were more tracks available on the EP because it really leaves me wanting to hear what else this band is going to surprise me with.” – TruePunk

“Though the band touches on several styles and presents their material with a variety of approaches, there is an underlying quality, a visceral tone to each song which serves as a unifying thread. This constancy is due in large part to the work of vocalist/guitarist John Renton whose presence, both vocally and instrumentally is direct and insistent without being overbearing” – SuburbanHorror

“Fans of Dave Smalley/Scott Reynolds-era All will probably ejaculate all over themselves when they hear the guitars on this record.” - Retro Low-Fi

“The gnarly opening guitar riff kicking off The Inevitable Backlash’s Sex for Safety EP promises adrenalin-fueled rock with an attitude to match” - Perfect Porridge

“Loaded up with crunchy guitars and an obsession with volume and libido”- The Daily Tar Heel

“The upbeat and energetic quintet of tracks thrashes and rocks out with full and fluid instrumentation”
-PlugIn Music

“The Inevitable Backlash turns up the amps and lets the rock flow with punk abandon”-D.O.A.

“The five tracks here kick up a fair amount of dust, propelled by front man John Renton’s shining guitar tones and solid work as both a rhythm and lead guitarist” -The phiLL(er)

“Rock and Roll enveloped with lyrical themes of the industry’s most assured seller – sex”-
Punk Planet

“From the first few seconds of “He Never Left,” the opening track on The Inevitable Backlash’s new EP, the band makes their mission quite clear—to rock you hard, slap you around, steal your beer and maybe break a couple windows.” -Treble Zine

“A Retro-Sounding punk roar with some back-in-the day Social Distortion thrown in”-Space City Rock

“Bring on the full length” –75 or Less

“Low Pop Suicide style punk rock. Plenty of attitude and ambiance and brilliant musicianship.” -Hybrid Magazine

“This is one must have disc. All the songs are off the handle with no signs of stopping, great stuff for punks and motorheads. Rock n’ Roll is back and these guys are kicking ass!”- NY Waste Magazine

Jason from Moonrats playing drums with us now!

hey guys. i know some of you were a little bummed out about some of the lineup changes. but sometimes you need to move on to get inspired. but i can safely say this is the sickest rhythm section of the band to date, and I am so so so pleased that Jason from Moonrats is laying down the drums this time around. i first saw him drumming at one of those benefits for Manny, I think it was the Scene in Glendale. the moonrats came on and i was standing at the bar with Manny, Juan from mars volta was there too. And Juan was just like “that guy is the sickest drummer I’ve seen in a while”. we all kind of nodded our heads in awe. a couple pictures of jason from tracking this week…

tracking bass w/ Jonathan Hischke from Hella!

so awesome to have the great jonathan hischke playing bass with the band this time around. you’ve seen him touring the world with zach hills HELLA where they played the infamous All Tomorrow’s Parties in Europe and stole the show. plus hes been in a million other great bands and opened for everyone from rilo kiley to sytem of a down. Juan alderete from The Mars Volta graciously lent us his bass rig and actuall mars volta bass for the session, that things made it to every country several times over the last few years and sounds unreal.

juan alderete from mars volta’s bass rig on the left w/mexican flag sticker, ran another bass line through a distorted marshall as well to swamp it out ,patented thump rhythm. thx again juan!

tour storiez and talez part 3: seattle washington: fun timez at the funhouse

we were coming from la grande, oregon which is kind of out of the way. driving around oregon is such a pleasure though. we were listening to turbonegro, the last pavement album, and some random laena ipod stuff as we slugged through the highways and bi-ways. a reststop where we made a scene. matt drumming to MAJOR LEAGUES. gps carrying us to glory. smoking cigarettes like fiends. those are the memories from the drive. it was cool to see the transition back to civilization. seattle was beautiful as your crossing the big bridge and you see the city, and memories occur: microsoft, technology, punk, veg, beauty. once again we had a hotel tonight. “this is the ghetto”, yeah so what else is new. pray nobody breaks into the van and cross your heart. of course they didn’t have rollaways because of fire code, its the floor again. pre-show makeup ritual time. laena’s such a pro with her gigantic makeup box and unlimited outfits. matt decided to draw in sharpie over his body. i just went with a napalm death shirt and denim. we cruise over to THE FUNHOUSE. what a great venue. right next to the spaceneedle, a huge smiling/grinning evil clown at the top of it. we start loading-in. shit. matt forgot his ID. we beg the manager so we dont have to drive back to get it. He says its all good. Then Laena realizes she doesent have hers. The bouncer smells a scam. we get back in the van, drive back to the hotel, hang out in the hotel, and head back over. we load-in and realize we are way early. we head up to the main drag, beacon, or 15th, or whatever its called. hit up some greek food. matt almost gets in a fight with the guy over whether anything has peanuts in it. meet some cool cats at the greek place say they may come check us out. we head back over to the funhouse, shots all around. we go on, and play easily the best show of the tour. midway through, the dudes from the greek restaurant show up. i start laughing and pointing at them and trying to solo. as we told them after the gig “everyone in LA always says that they’ll come to the gig” but never do. finished the gig, its raining outside in seattle. shocking right? everyone goes backstage and has some “fun” with some of the other bands. i spent time talking with a bunch of people who really dug the set. someone called us “pixies meet sonic youth”. I’ll take that any day of the week. laena is unbelievably bummed, call it a post-gig come down? the music isnt the most pleasing and cant be helping. everyone wants to get the hell out. get the biggest pay day of the tour. sweet. head back to the hotel, now everyones pretty buzzed and were laughing and joking about the misfits and all the merchandise they have for no reason really. crash at the hotel, until we were woken by pretty bad news.

cover flow... working w/ Emy, Tegan and Sara's art director

thx again to Emy Storey for giving us the hookup and designing the album artwork for the SEX FOR SAFETY ep. everyone knows her for the stunning and great work she did on Tegan and Sara’s last few albums, merch, website, and even their own line of DC skate shoes….thx again emy for helping a struggling band out, hope to repay the favor someday!

we absolutely love the final product she came up with for THE SEX FOR SAFETY EP, the Daily Tar Heel newspaper made note of the stark red and black style…..

to get the full emy experience you want to pick up the physical album atamazon

if digitals your thang you can still dig on the cover art on your ipod through itunes
